I see one other rider has had an instrument cluster fail, this one after only 16,000 KM.

HAVE OTHER RIDERS HAD A CLUSTER FAILURE?????

Yes I did.  It cost $1800.00 to repair.

I haven't but.....apparently using a non-power-isolated trailer wiring harness  can cook the cluster if the trailer wiring shorts out.

I've heard if you mess with the wiring.....................................................anything could come along electrically

Lyle bought his 2010 RT used at 15,000 kms.
Within 1 day of owning it, the cluster went.
There is no hitch so no wiring. That wasn't the issue.
New cluster and it is good to go.
So the wiring wasn't messed around with. No extra lights, etc.
Bike is basically stock.

my 2012 RTS is stock mechanically and electrically. just it has 102500 km on it. The cluster just gave it up and from what I read BRP does not seem to care. not nice. DQ
